Chhattisgarh PG Medical Counselling 2025 Cancelled
Chhattisgarh state authorities have officially cancelled the Post Graduate (MD/MS) medical counselling process for the academic year 2025, following directions issued by the Hon’ble Chhattisgarh High Court. The decision was announced through an official notification released on 22 January 2026 by the Office of the Commissioner, Medical Education, Chhattisgarh.
Why Was the Counselling Cancelled?
The cancellation comes in compliance with a High Court order dated 16 January 2026, passed by the Hon’ble Chhattisgarh High Court, Bilaspur, in the case State of Chhattisgarh & Others vs Dr. Samridhi Dubey (MCC No. 40/2026).
Pursuant to the court’s ruling, the state government notified the revised “Chhattisgarh Post Graduate Medical Admission Rules, 2025” on 22 January 2026. These revised rules mandate significant changes in the reservation framework used for PG medical admissions.
Effect on Seat Matrix & Allotments
According to the official notice, the amendments require a complete revision of the reservation roster and seat matrix. Since the earlier counselling rounds were conducted based on the previous roster, all allotments made under Round 1 and Round 2 are now declared invalid.
As a result:
-
● Round 1 counselling is cancelled
-
● Round 2 counselling is cancelled
-
● All PG MD/MS seat allotments made so far stand nullified

-
● Follow the revised admission rules
-
● Be based on a new 200-point reservation roster
-
● Include a restructured seat matrix
What Changes in Eligibility & Seat Distribution Are Expected?
While stakeholders are still studying the fine print of the revised rules, the initial reading suggests the following key changes for Chhattisgarh PG 2025 (subject to official confirmation and detailed clarification):
1. State Quota Seats in Government Colleges
-
● Around 50% of Chhattisgarh State Quota seats are now likely to be reserved in the initial rounds only for:
-
- Candidates who have completed MBBS from Chhattisgarh, or
- In-service candidates of Chhattisgarh.
-
-
● These seats would open to All India candidates only from the third round onwards, and that too only if eligible CG MBBS / in-service candidates do not occupy them.
-
● Earlier, a portion of these State Quota seats (roughly half of the State Quota) was available to All India (open) candidates from the beginning, which now appears to be removed.
2. 50% Seats in Private Medical Colleges – Reserved for CG MBBS / In-Service
-
● In private institutes, 50% of the total seats are expected to be reserved in the initial rounds for Chhattisgarh MBBS graduates and in-service doctors.
-
● Just like government State Quota seats, these will only convert to All India open seats from Round 3 onwards, and that too only if they remain vacant after CG MBBS / in-service candidates have been considered.
3. Remaining 50% Private Seats – All India Open (With Reservation)
-
● The other 50% of seats in private medical colleges are likely to continue as All India open seats.
-
● Reservation rules (as per the revised roster) are expected to apply to these seats as well.
Note: The above structure is based on the notification and early interpretation of the new rules. Final implementation details will depend on official clarifications, counselling notices, and updated seat matrices released by the Directorate.
How Will This Impact Different Types of Candidates?
For Chhattisgarh MBBS Graduates & In-Service Doctors
-
The revised rules appear to strengthen opportunities for:
-
● Candidates who have done MBBS from Chhattisgarh, and
-
● In-service doctors under the State.
-
-
They are likely to get priority access to:
-
● 50% of State Quota seats in government colleges, and
-
● 50% of seats in private institutes, at least during the initial rounds.
-
For Non-Chhattisgarh / Other State Candidates
-
Non-CG candidates may now have fewer immediate options in the early rounds, especially in:
-
● Government colleges under State Quota, and
-
● The 50% block of private college seats reserved for CG MBBS / in-service candidates.
-
-
However, they can still compete for:
-
● The 50% All India open seats in private colleges, and
-
● Any unfilled reserved seats that may open for All India in later rounds (likely from Round 3 onwards).
-
Because of this shift, rank management, choice filling, and realistic college targeting become even more critical for NEET PG aspirants this year.
