NEET PG 2025 Round 3 Seat Matrix
The MCC NEET PG Counselling 2025 Round 3 seat matrix clearly shows how many postgraduate medical seats are available after Round 1 and Round 2 counselling. These seats are divided into three important categories: Newly Added Seats, Clear Vacancies, and Virtual Vacancies.
NEET PG 2025 Newly Added Seats In Round 3
Newly added seats are fresh PG seats that were not available in Round 1 or Round 2. These seats are approved later by the National Medical Commission (NMC) after inspection or expansion of intake capacity in medical colleges.
Since no candidate has occupied these seats earlier, they are considered completely fresh opportunities. Many students prefer newly added seats because competition is relatively lower and allotment is straightforward.
| Seat Category | Total Seats(MD/MS/DNB) |
| Newly Added Seats | 292 |

Predict NowNEET PG 2025 Clear Vacancies In Round 3
Clear vacancies are seats that are fully vacant before Round 3 begins. These seats became available because candidates did not report to the allotted college, resigned their seats, or the seats remained unfilled in earlier rounds.
Clear vacancies are the safest option in Round 3 counselling. If your rank matches the cutoff and you choose a clear vacancy seat, there is almost no uncertainty in allotment.
| Seat Category | Total Seats(MD/MS/DNB) |
| Clear Vacancies | 10,101 |

NEET PG 2025 Virtual Vacancies In Round 3
A virtual vacancy means the seat is not empty right now, but it can become available in Round 3. For example, if a candidate joined a seat in Round 1 or Round 2 and selected “YES” for upgradation at the time of reporting, that seat is marked as a virtual vacancy.
If the candidate gets a better seat in Round 3, the earlier seat will be vacated and offered to another student. However, if the candidate is not upgraded, the seat will remain occupied and will not be available. This is why virtual vacancies offer good opportunities but also involve some uncertainty.
| Seat Category | Total Seats(MD/MS/DNB) |
| Virtual Vacancies | 18,076 |

Why MCC Shows Seats in Separate Categories
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) does not show all available seats in one single list because that can easily confuse candidates during Round 3 counselling. Instead, seats are divided into separate categories so students can clearly understand which seats are fully vacant, which are newly approved, and which may become available later.
Which Seat Category Should Be Preferred First
Most candidates follow a practical and balanced approach while filling choices. They usually begin with clear vacancy seats because these seats are already empty and offer the highest level of certainty. If the rank matches the cutoff, allotment is almost assured.
After that, newly added seats are considered because they are fresh seats approved later and often attract slightly less competition. Finally, candidates add virtual vacancy seats, which can offer popular branches and colleges but depend on upgradation by other students.
How Choice Filling Works in Round 3
During choice filling on the MCC portal, candidates can view the complete and updated seat matrix, search seats by college, branch, state, or quota, and add unlimited choices. The order of preferences can be changed any number of times before final . Olockingnce choices are locked, no edits are allowed, so it is important to review all selections carefully before submitting.
Why Many Seats Remain Available in Round 3
Seats often remain vacant or become available again due to common reasons. Some candidates do not join colleges located far from their home state, others leave private or deemed seats after securing government seats, and many reconsider options due to high fees. Additionally, some candidates wait for better branches or preferred locations, which increases availability in Round 3.
