Eligibility for MCC NEET PG 2025 Stray Vacancy Round
MCC has defined strict rules regarding who can and cannot participate in the Online Stray Vacancy Round (Round 4). Candidates must carefully check their status before expecting allotment in this final round.
You are Eligible if:
- 1. You were not allotted any seat in Round 1, Round 2, or Round 3.
- 2. You were allotted a seat earlier but formally resigned through the MCC portal (security deposit forfeited).
- 3. You were allotted a seat but did not report/join the institute (except fresh Round 3 allottees).
You are NOT Eligible if:
- 1. You have already joined any seat in Round 1, Round 2, or Round 3.
- 2. You are holding or have joined any State Quota counselling seat.
- 3. You were freshly allotted a seat in Round 3 and did not join the institute.
These rules are strictly enforced to prevent seat blocking and ensure that only genuinely unallotted candidates get the final opportunity to secure a postgraduate medical seat.
The stray vacancy round is very different from earlier rounds. There are no upgrades and no resignations allowed.
If a candidate gets a seat in this round, they must join it compulsorily.
1. No fresh registrations after deadline
- 2. No free exit option
- 3. No upgradation to better college
- 3. Non-joining leads to permanent disqualification
This round is conducted mainly to fill the remaining vacant seats left after Round 3 due to non-joining, resignation or high fees in private colleges.

Every year many PG seats remain vacant after the third round. Reasons include:
- 1. High fees in deemed universities
- 2. Location preference issues
- 3. Branch mismatch
- 4. Late upgrades in previous rounds
The stray vacancy round ensures that medical seats do not go waste and colleges can start the academic session on time. For many candidates, this round becomes a life-changing opportunity because cutoffs drop significantly.

After candidates join colleges, MCC will share the list of joined candidates with state counselling authorities. This is known as the weeding out process.
It ensures that students who joined AIQ seats cannot take admission in state quota seats. This prevents duplicate admissions and helps states identify actual vacancies.
