Karnataka NEET PG 2025 Round 3: Non-Inservice Seat Matrix Released

Karnataka NEET PG 2025 Round 3 has opened a major opportunity for postgraduate medical aspirants through the non-inservice seat matrix released by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). This round is especially important for candidates who could not secure a seat in earlier rounds.

As per the provisional seat matrix dated 17 January 2026, there are more than 1,500 vacant PG medical seats available across government, private, and open categories.

What Are Non-Inservice Seats in Karnataka NEET PG?

In Karnataka NEET PG counselling, seats are mainly divided into two types: Inservice and Non-Inservice.

Non-inservice seats are normal PG medical seats meant for candidates who are not working as government doctors in Karnataka.

These seats are for fresh MBBS graduates, private doctors, foreign medical graduates (FMGs), and doctors working in private hospitals. Most NEET PG aspirants come under this category.

Non-inservice seats include seats in government colleges, private colleges, management quota, and open category seats. That is why the non-inservice seat matrix is very important for Round 3.

Who Is Eligible for Non-Inservice Seats?

The eligibility for non-inservice seats is simple and open to many candidates.

You can apply for non-inservice seats if:

• You have qualified NEET PG 2025
• You have completed MBBS and internship
• You are not a government service doctor in Karnataka

For management and open category seats, there is usually no Karnataka domicile requirement. Candidates from any state in India and FMGs can apply.

For government college seats under General Merit, Karnataka domicile rules apply. These rules are only for government quota seats.

In simple words, non-inservice seats are meant for most NEET PG candidates

Category-Wise Availability of Non-Inservice Seats

The vacant seats are mainly divided into three key categories. Each category serves a different group of candidates and comes with its own advantages.

General Merit (GM): There are 400+ seats under the GM category. These seats are primarily meant for Karnataka domicile candidates and are available mostly in government and aided colleges. Fees are relatively low, making GM seats highly preferred.

Management Quota (MNG): The Management category has the largest share with 700+ seats. These seats are available in private medical colleges. Although fees are higher, this category offers wide choices in popular branches like General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Radiology, and Paediatrics.

Open Category (OPN): Around 350+ seats fall under the Open category. These seats are open to all Indian candidates, including non-Karnataka students and FMGs. OPN seats are useful for aspirants willing to study outside their home state.

Altogether, the total number of available non-inservice seats crosses 1,500, reflecting high movement and reshuffling during counselling.

Why Are So Many Seats Available in Round 3?

Large vacancies in Round 3 are common every year and happen due to multiple reasons. Many candidates who joined seats in Round 1 or Round 2 opt for upgradation and leave their earlier seats.

Some candidates do not report to colleges due to personal reasons, financial concerns, or preference for All India Quota seats. In Karnataka, the non-inservice category sees more movement because the state has a mix of top government colleges and high-intake private colleges.

Delayed counselling timelines at the national level and percentile reductions also increase eligibility, which indirectly contributes to higher seat availability.

What Kind of Branches and Colleges Can You Expect in Round 3?

With more than 1,500 non-inservice seats available in Karnataka NEET PG 2025 Round 3, this phase gives many candidates a realistic chance to secure good branches that were difficult to get earlier. Availability improves not because seats are “bad,” but because of upgrades, non-reporting, and reshuffling after Round 1 and Round 2.

In the General Merit (GM) category, which has 400+ seats, clinical branches like General Medicine, General Surgery, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology are expected in government colleges. Institutions such as Bangalore Medical College, Mysore Medical College, and KIMS Hubballi often show vacancies in later rounds. These seats are highly valuable because fees are usually low and patient exposure is strong.

The Management (MNG) category forms the largest pool with 700+ seats. Most of these are in private medical colleges across Karnataka. Popular branches like Radiology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Dermatology, Anaesthesia are more commonly seen here.

While fees are higher, many colleges offer modern infrastructure, good stipends, and wide clinical exposure. Non-clinical branches are also widely available and easier to secure for candidates with moderate ranks.

The Open (OPN) category, with 350+ seats, is especially helpful for candidates from outside Karnataka and foreign medical graduates (FMGs). These seats do not require domicile.

Branches like ENT, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, and Anaesthesia often appear in this category. Urban centres like Bengaluru and Mysuru attract more applicants, while colleges in places like Belagavi or Raichur usually have lower competition.
