About College Campus

Zoram Medical College (ZMC), initially established as Mizoram Institute of Medical Education & Research (MIMER), was founded under a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at upgrading district and referral hospitals to medical colleges. Approval for the college was granted on February 19, 2014, by Dr. Vishwas Mehta, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, with a formal Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Government of India and the Government of Mizoram on May 16, 2014. The college was built with a project cost of Rs. 189 lakh, and a provisional Consent of Affiliation was granted by Mizoram University in January 2015. Initially named MIMER, the college was later renamed Zoram Medical College in April 2019 following a decision by the Mizoram Council of Ministers. ZMC received permission from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to enroll 100 students in the MBBS program for the academic session 2018-2019 and was granted official recognition by the National Medical Commission (NMC) on June 16, 2023.

About Hospital

The Zoram Medical College Hospital, located in Falkawn, Mizoram, serves as the primary teaching hospital for ZMC, providing essential healthcare services to Mizoram’s population. Initially part of the State Referral Hospital, the facility was upgraded to support the establishment of the medical college and to meet the healthcare needs of the community. The hospital is equipped to offer a range of medical services, including outpatient care, emergency services, and specialized treatments across various departments. The facility plays a crucial role in practical medical training for ZMC students, helping them gain hands-on experience in patient care. By serving the community and acting as a training ground for future healthcare professionals, ZMC Hospital significantly contributes to strengthening Mizoram’s healthcare system.
