Silchar Medical College was established as the second medical college in Assam to address the growing need for medical education in the region. Initially, classes began in makeshift arrangements in the Boys' Hostel No. II, with an annual intake of 50 students for the MBBS program. The college aimed to provide comprehensive medical education, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical training. The permanent campus, inaugurated on August 15, 1968, features modern lecture halls and laboratories, enabling students to pursue their medical education effectively. Over the years, Silchar Medical College has grown, offering a range of medical courses and establishing a reputation for academic excellence, contributing significantly to the healthcare workforce in Assam and neighboring states.

About Hospital

Silchar Medical Hospital serves as the teaching hospital affiliated with Silchar Medical College, providing essential healthcare services to the Barak Valley and beyond. Initially established as a referral center in 1971, the hospital has become a vital institution for community health, offering various medical services, including emergency care, outpatient services, and specialized treatments. The main hospital building complex, commissioned in 1977-78, houses several departments and facilities, ensuring comprehensive patient care. As a major healthcare provider in the region, Silchar Medical Hospital plays a crucial role in addressing the medical needs of the local population and serves as a training ground for medical students, fostering a new generation of healthcare professionals.!
