Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), established with the vision of advancing medical education, research, and specialized healthcare in Jammu and Kashmir, is a premier postgraduate institution. Construction for SKIMS began in 1976, and the institute was partially commissioned on December 5, 1982. By August 19, 1983, it achieved Deemed University status through an Act of Legislature, reinforcing its role as a center for medical training and academic excellence. SKIMS offers specialized postgraduate and postdoctoral programs across various disciplines identified by government-appointed committees to meet the specific healthcare needs of the region. About Hospital

SKIMS serves as a tertiary care hospital, providing specialized and super-specialty medical services to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Its primary mission is to offer advanced healthcare facilities that link primary, secondary, and tertiary health systems across the state, ensuring an integrated approach to health service delivery. Funded by the state government through the 5th and 6th plan grants, SKIMS was equipped and constructed to offer high-level patient care with cutting-edge technology and infrastructure.
