About College Campus

The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) was established in 1987 to serve as a premier postgraduate medical institution, comparable to AIIMS, New Delhi, and PGIMER, Chandigarh. It is the first of its kind in the northeastern region, aiming to provide advanced medical education and healthcare services. NEIGRIHMS began its undergraduate MBBS course in 2008 with 50 seats, which is set to double, while its postgraduate MD/MS programs started in 2009 and the post-doctoral DM Cardiology program in 2012. Additionally, the college introduced a B.Sc. Nursing course in 2006, later adding an M.Sc. Nursing program in 2016. To enhance specialization, the Academic Council has approved fellowship programs in fields like Cardio-Vascular Thoracic Surgery, Neurology, and Emergency Medicine, positioning NEIGRIHMS as a vital institution for high-level medical training in northeast India.

NEIGRIHMS Hospital serves as the clinical wing of the institute, providing comprehensive healthcare services to the people of Meghalaya and the broader northeastern region. Equipped with advanced facilities, the hospital offers specialized departments, such as Cardiology, Neurology, and Orthopaedics, to cater to complex medical cases. It is a referral center for tertiary care and hosts various residency and fellowship programs, allowing postgraduate students to gain practical, hands-on experience in patient care.
