Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati Medical College & Hospital (M.K.C.G.) in Brahmapur, Odisha, was established to provide medical and paramedical education and to produce healthcare professionals for the community. It also aims to offer tertiary healthcare to the people of southwestern Odisha. Initially an extension of S.C.B. Medical College, Cuttack, M.K.C.G. moved to Brahmapur in 1962 and has been functioning independently since 1963 when the foundation stone for its own campus was laid. The college spans a 162-acre campus and has grown significantly since its inception in terms of infrastructure and academic offerings. It started with an intake of 40 MBBS students in 1961, which has progressively increased to 250 students per year by 2016. Postgraduate courses began in 1971-72 with disciplines such as Physiology, General Medicine, and General Surgery, and have expanded to include a variety of other specialties including super-specialty courses like D.M in Cardiology and Endocrinology. M.K.C.G. Medical College is recognized by the Medical Council of India and other professional bodies like AICTE, ensuring that all courses offered meet the required educational standards. The institution has produced over 5000 MBBS graduates and more than 1000 postgraduates who are recognized for their professional excellence worldwide.
