About College Campus

Established to address the critical shortage of medical professionals in Assam, Jorhat Medical College was founded under the leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister Sjt. Tarun Gogoi and Hon'ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. The college began its journey in 2005, amidst the recognition that the existing medical colleges were inadequate to meet the healthcare demands of the state. With a vision to enhance medical education and health services in middle Assam, Jorhat Medical College aims to serve a population of approximately 1.2 million, not only in Jorhat but also in neighboring districts and states such as Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. The college's establishment involved the acquisition of 62 bighas of land to create an integrated campus designed for comprehensive medical education and healthcare delivery. Groundbreaking ceremonies commenced with “Bhumi Puja” in June 2008, and the foundation stone was laid by Hon’ble Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh later that August. The college quickly progressed under the guidance of its first Principal, Prof. Dhrubajyoti Borah, who played a significant role in setting up the necessary infrastructure for both academic and clinical training.
