Diphu Medical College, originally known as Assam Hills Medical College and Research Institute (AHMC&RI), was established to serve the people of Karbi Anglong district and nearby areas. The foundation stone for the institution was laid on January 19, 2011, by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, then Assam's Health and Family Welfare Minister, alongside notable state dignitaries. In November 2019, the college was officially renamed Diphu Medical College, reflecting its commitment to providing essential medical education and healthcare services to the local community. This public institution has since played a critical role in expanding access to medical education in Assam's hill regions, aligning with its mission to uplift healthcare standards in remote areas.

About Hospital

Diphu Medical College Hospital became fully operational on November 25, 2019, inaugurated by Health Minister Sjt. Pijush Hazarika. The hospital is managed under the leadership of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Sumitra Hagjer and Superintendent Prof. (Dr.) T.K. Das. Its comprehensive facilities include an old block section, which continues to provide vital healthcare services to the district's population.
