NBEMS AI Programme for PG Doctors & Faculty: Eligibility, Objectives, Certificate & Attendance Rules
Artificial Intelligence is steadily reshaping modern medicine, influencing how doctors diagnose diseases, plan treatments, conduct research and train future professionals. To help medical educators and postgraduate doctors adapt to this shift in a safe and responsible manner, a structured learning programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Medical Education has been introduced.
The programme focuses on practical understanding rather than technical complexity. It aims to help doctors use AI as a clinical support system, while ensuring that medical judgment, patient safety, ethical standards and accountability remain central to healthcare delivery in the Indian context.
Programme Overview
This AI programme has been carefully designed for postgraduate medical trainees and faculty members who wish to understand how artificial intelligence fits into real-world clinical practice and academic environments.
Rather than teaching programming or software development, the course helps participants interpret AI outputs, evaluate clinical relevance and identify situations where AI can assist decision-making — and equally important, situations where it should not be relied upon.
Academic Collaboration and Expert Involvement
The programme has been developed in consultation with IIM Lucknow, bringing strong academic and strategic input into its structure and learning design.
In addition, reputed faculty members and subject experts from Oxford University, Harvard University, Mayo Clinic (USA & UK) and leading Indian institutions, including IIMs, have agreed to participate in the programme.
This multidisciplinary collaboration ensures that participants are exposed to global best practices in AI, while maintaining relevance to Indian healthcare systems and regulatory frameworks.
Programme Objective
The primary objective of the programme is to equip doctors and faculty with the knowledge, judgment and applied understanding required to critically evaluate and responsibly integrate AI technologies into clinical practice, medical education and health systems in India.
What Participants Will Learn
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
1. Understand core AI concepts relevant to healthcare without needing
technical or programming expertise.
2. Critically assess AI tools, models and published research for
clinical validity, usefulness, bias and patient safety.
3. Apply sound clinical judgment to decide when AI support is appropriate
and when it is not.
4. Recognize ethical, legal, privacy and cybersecurity concerns related
to AI use in Indian healthcare settings.
5. Integrate AI-generated insights into clinical decision-making
while maintaining patient-centred reasoning.
6. Work effectively with multidisciplinary teams as a clinical domain
expert in AI-driven healthcare projects.
7. Demonstrate professionalism, transparency and accountability while
using AI-assisted tools in patient care, teaching and research.
Who Can Enroll?
The programme is open to:
– NBEMS postgraduate trainees currently in training
– NBEMS alumni who qualified in recent years
– Faculty members of NBEMS-accredited departments
– Other registered medical professionals interested in AI applications
in healthcare and medical education
Doctors from earlier batches may also be considered in subsequent intakes, subject to availability.
Course Fee
There is no fee for enrolling in or attending this programme. Eligible participants can join all sessions free of cost.
How the Online Classes Work
All sessions are conducted online. Class schedules and access links are published on the official NBEMS website. Participants can join each session using the designated “Join the Class” link for that day.
Attendance is recorded automatically when participants join the session live. A short feedback form must be submitted at the end of each class to complete attendance for that session.
Attendance and Certification
Live attendance is mandatory. Recorded sessions are provided only for reference and are not counted for certification eligibility.
Participants who attend at least 75% of the live sessions and successfully complete the assessment module will receive a Course Completion Certificate.
Those who attend sessions but do not meet certification criteria will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Professional Ethics and Responsibility
The programme strongly emphasizes that artificial intelligence should support — not replace — professional medical judgment. Participants are expected to uphold ethical standards, protect patient confidentiality and maintain academic integrity while engaging with AI tools discussed during the programme.
In this official address, the President of NBEMS outlines the vision and academic intent behind the Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Medical Education programme, emphasizing responsible AI adoption, ethical clinical practice and the continued central role of medical judgment in India’s healthcare system.
For schedules, updates and access links, participants are advised to regularly visit the official NBEMS website.
