Maharashtra NEET UG Counselling 2026 – Admission Process (Step-by-Step )

The admission process for Maharashtra NEET UG Counselling 2026 is conducted through a centralized online system managed by the State CET Cell, Mumbai. The entire process includes registration, document upload, merit list preparation, choice filling, seat allotment, and final admission at allotted colleges. Every step must be completed carefully, as mistakes cannot be corrected later.

Stage Process Details
Online Registration Candidates must fill the online application form on the official website (www.mahacet.org). Registration is required for Round 1 and/or Round 3. Fresh registration is also allowed in Round 3.
Application Form Filling Candidates must enter personal, academic, and NEET details carefully. OTP verification is required using registered mobile number and email ID.
Fee Payment After submission, candidates must pay the prescribed non-refundable fee online (₹1000 / ₹5000 / ₹6000 depending on quota).
Document Upload After payment, candidates must upload required documents online for verification.
Merit List Provisional state merit list is prepared based on NEET UG rank and eligibility.
Choice Filling Candidates must fill online preferences (college + course) separately for each round.
Seat Allotment Seats are allotted based on NEET merit, category, and preferences filled by candidates.
Reporting Candidates must report to allotted college with original documents and fees to confirm admission.

The application process begins with online registration, where candidates must carefully read the official information brochure before filling the form. After clicking the “Apply Online” link, candidates need to complete the application step-by-step, verify all details, and accept the declaration confirming that all information provided is correct. Once submitted, no changes are allowed, so accuracy is extremely important.

After successful registration and fee payment, candidates must upload all required documents. Based on this, the provisional merit list is prepared. Only candidates included in the merit list are eligible for further counselling rounds and choice filling.

The choice filling (preference form) is one of the most important steps. Candidates must select colleges and courses in order of preference. Each round (Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, and stray vacancy round) requires fresh choice filling. Once submitted, choices cannot be edited, so candidates must carefully select their options based on rank, fees, and college preference.

CAP Counselling Rounds Explained

Maharashtra counselling is conducted in multiple rounds through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP). These rounds ensure that all available seats are filled based on merit and preferences.

Round Details
Round 1 Initial allotment based on merit and preferences. Candidates can join, upgrade, or skip.
Round 2 Includes vacant seats from Round 1. Fresh choices required. Upgradation possible.
Round 3 Fresh registration allowed. Mandatory joining if seat is allotted.
Stray Vacancy Round Final round to fill remaining vacant seats. No new registration allowed.

Round 1 is the starting phase where candidates get their first allotment. If satisfied, they can submit a Status Retention Form to freeze their seat. If they want a better option, they can skip retention and participate in further rounds for upgradation.

Round 2 allows candidates to modify preferences and try for better colleges. If a candidate is upgraded, the previous seat is automatically cancelled. If not upgraded, the previous seat remains secure.

Round 3 is crucial because fresh registration is allowed here. Candidates allotted seats in this round must join the college; otherwise, they may lose eligibility for further counselling.

The stray vacancy round is the final opportunity to secure admission. Only candidates who were not allotted any seat in previous rounds can participate. Seats are allotted strictly based on merit and remaining availability.
